Yahoo Chromecast states

As part of Yahoo’s rebrand, Yahoo asked for a set of interactions for the re-release of its Chromecast app — loading animations and player states that would later roll out to Roku and Fire TV.

Approach

Give the team options by effort, not just by taste.

Yahoo provided the new brand guidelines and set me loose. Instead of one “hero” concept, I designed loading options in low, mid and high-effort tiers, so product and engineering could pick what fit the MVP and plan what came after — a small thing that made the conversation about scope instead of opinions.

States

Every state a TV player can be in.

On a TV, the receiver UI is non-interactive — the phone is the remote. So every state had to communicate on its own, respect TV safe areas, and fade out of the way of the content.
